The Kitu Kara people coexist with contemporaneity in the Ecuadorian capital. These ancestral communities are alive in their traditional practices and inhabit several territories of the Metropolitan District of Quito. A workshop between photographers and community members resulted in an exhibition that reflects this coexistence.
The Inti Raymi festivities and their preparations share scenes that portray the coexistence between the ancestral and the contemporary. From the territory, the community life of Oyambarillo, Lumbisí and La Tola Chica, localities belonging to the Kitu Kara people - made up of more than 100,000 people - and located within the Metropolitan District of Quito, can be better understood.
Commissioned for the Secretariat of Culture of the Municipality of Quito.
