In June 2022, a wave of mobilizations began nationwide from June 13 to 30, 2022, called by several social organizations, mainly by the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador (CONAIE), in opposition to the policies of the government of Guillermo Lasso. The indigenous people led the strike and demonstrated how resistance is woven from the community level. The high cost of living and the worsening insecurity in the country were the triggers. After 18 days of mobilizations, the indigenous organizations and the government reached an agreement with the mediation of the Ecuadorian Episcopal Conference.
This essay compiles different moments that demonstrate the fabric of resistance of the indigenous nationalities when they decide to stand up on behalf of their peoples and the whole society that suffers from the current inequality in the management of the current government.
